Today I’m sharing something that I personally value and try to apply in my daily life called, “Trust The Process“. If you’re hearing this for the first time, I’m elated to share with you the meaning behind it. It sounds a bit mechanical but I promise it’s not, I hope it will help if you’re having uncertainty in your personal or professional life.
My personal example is a certain moment in my career. I’ve held some good roles that were rewarding and helped me grow as an individual, met people that became lifelong friends and mentors, but also had the complete opposite as well where I felt stuck, unfulfilled or drained by my job. Do you see how I refer to positive experiences as a “role” and the opposite as a “job”? I had one of those “aha” moments about a year or so after I first heard of “trust the process”. To back up a year prior, I was not happy where I was professionally and simply thought I had made a mistake working at that organization. At that time a good friend said to me “it will all work it self out the way it was meant to be, trust that this experience was meant to happen, you need this so it can lead you to greater things, trust the process”. Well guess what? It did lead me to landing a role within an organization where I felt empowered and valued. It didn’t happen instantaneously as we often wish for, but it happened at an important time in my life that felt just right. Here’s the silver lining I learned that trusting the process had to do with me and having faith in myself. I know that each experience and challenge I had to overcome made me better, stronger, wiser and more confident as a person and a leader.
So I will end on this note, accept your journey with all the ups and downs because ultimately we have to have the darkness to appreciate the light.
“To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don’t grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead, you relax, and float.” ― Alan Wilson Watts
